Blending the Organic in Art
with the Control of The Digital Age

Painter, digital-manipulator, and dark horse leader, Bill's bio is as diverse as his work, itself. When working on his biography, we felt that his own words would do better than anything we could say:

I've been drawing since I was about 5 years old, and fell in love with pictures after seeing the first comic book that I can remember: Batman 237 Great art by Neal Adams and story by Denny O'neil.

I drew superheroes and monsters with my younger brother Bob, and played at being Daredevil, Captain America, Superman, and Batman.

I Decided that I wanted to draw comics for a living around 13, when John Byrne was drawing the X-Men, and started going to conventions a few years later.

KOEB Sandman NIGHTMARE Painted Sketch

What really made an impact on me was seeing Bill Sienkiewicz's work on covers and getting a chance to meet Bill in Berkeley in 1983. From him,I learned about illustrators like Barron Storey, Mark English, Gary Kelley, and Bob Peak.

After doing some research into art schools, I learned that Barron Storey was an instructor at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, and enrolled there. Barron was a big influence on the content and process oriented approach that has become my approach to picture making.

In art school, I got interested in painters and illustrators whom I never would have discovered had I limited my experience of pictures to comics. There is so much great work in the world, that the the question of influence becomes a moot point, I am influenced by so much, and so many kinds of work, as are many others whose work I like.

I am living happily amongst friends and peers in Chapel Hill, NC with my wife Julie, our son Gabriel and two cats named Oliver and Rosie, and a dog named Gracie.

- Bill KOEB, February 2003

After a small hiatus in the marketing and advertising fields, Bill is now traversing back into the illustration comic industries and bringing with him the talent and abilities that have earned him the respect, friendship, and admiration of many of his peers in the comics and painting fields.
